BABY STEPS (APRIL)

Wednesday, April 2, 2014

Happy April, friends! :)

Many of my goals from March didn't happen so you'll see them repeated again this month. I was just busy wrapping up several personal projects, so I didn't get around to some of them but that's okay. Many other things were accomplished so I was happy to see these projects appear in April's list again.

Here are my baby steps for April. I actually created a fun little goals sheet for myself because I'm super excited about this month — and I created a free printable for you, too! Download it for yourself, add your goals, post it up where you can see it! If it's right in front of you, you'll be more likely to remember and accomplish the goals.

The one on the left is mine, and the one the right is for you! Just right-click it, press 'save', and print it! Easey-peasey. :)

I'd love to see what your April goals are, as well. Feel free to comment below or send me a link to your own blog/instagram sharing your goals. We can keep each other accountable! Don't forget #coffeeandhoneycomb

SNEAK PEEK : THE CLOSET

Sunday, September 15, 2013

Closet organization is always tricky — especially when the size of the closet is not ideal. However, the smaller the closet, the more crucial good organization is. I thought I'd give a mini tour of what my closet entails to (hopefully) give you any kind of inspiration as you plan out yours.

Welcome to the closet.

^ Tops, in the order of dark to white, from long sleeve to tank.

^ Everyday makeup. White/gold storage from the Target dollar section.

^ Close up of knits.

^ Purses and day dresses.

^ My makeshift vanity area.

^ Shelves organized and separated by knits, breezy skirts, colored jeans, and regular denim.

^ The daily necessities. / Most reached for pieces on display.

^ Empty frames I plan on putting up sometime in the near future.

^ Fresh flowers from the bf and a simple white frame from Ikea.

SNEAK PEEK: MY WORKSPACE

Thursday, September 5, 2013

My room still isn't fully ready yet, but my desk came in over the weekend so I wanted to share a snippet of my new work space — as is. :) I put the desk right next to the window to maximize as much sunlight. Natural light is the best, you know.

I haven't added wall art yet, so that it is still a work in progress.
Feel free to send any inspo my way!

INSPIRED : APARTMENT

Thursday, August 29, 2013

(image : pinterest)

It's been exactly ONE WEEK since I moved into my apartment!!! Woohoo. And no, that image above looks nothing like what my real apartment looks like, but isn't it so cute? I really like how the windows let enough light seep throughout the entire living area.

Things I love about my apartment:

  • I'm a 10-minute walking distance from all my classes so I don't need to rely on a bus schedule to get to where I need to be. The weather has also been extremely nice lately, so the morning walk just puts my day to a great start. :) I think over the past year I grew really accustomed to walking everywhere because of Europe and my Chicago commutes.
  • There is a Starbucks conveniently located three blocks away. (which is where I am right now typing awaaaay)
  • My parking spot is LITERALLY as close as it gets to my apartment complex. (PTL for that because I definitely waited to the last minute to buy a parking pass.)
  • The huge amount of space. There is so much room my roommate and I plan on having many spontaneous dance parties... And one of my roommates plan on doing many spontaneous cartwheels... Which is kind of weird... But she can! Because there is THAT much space.
  • The hardwood floors. Lurv it.
  • The kitchen bar. It's spacious enough for all three of us to sit and do work at the same time. There's also a nice light fixture right above it which makes the area feel brighter than it really is. The best part? It's an arms reach to all the food. #winner
^ Maybe I should have made this a 10 things I love about my apartment... Whateva.

The whole place isn't quite fully furnished yet, and we don't have an entertainment center or a kitchen table. I think that's what makes the apartment still feel so new each time I walk in. It doesn't look lived in. It doesn't feel really cozy either. Maybe I should I throw in a welcome mat...

My room isn't fully furnished yet either, but I'm really enjoying having a room to myself. :) This is the first time in four years I'm not sharing a room with someone, and while I LOVE having a roommate, it's nice to have absolute control over every inch and corner of your space. (i'm a wittle bit of a control freak.)

Anyway, the room didn't come with a desk, so I'm planning on picking one up from Ikea when I go home this weekend. I really appreciate a solid work space because I tend to do a good amount in my room. I need a lot of desk space for books, the laptop, writing utensils, and a big mug of coffee (of course.) I also like to have different bits of inspiration around me to keep me motivated and productive. I try to throw up different bible verses, encouraging quotes, colors combos, photos, etc. Once the desk comes in, I want to make a montage of different wall art to keep that area inspiring.

Here are some things on Pinterest I found that I want to replicate...

^ Aren't these spaces just INVITING you to create something?

What does your workspace area look like? I'd love to see more inspiration.

TUESDAY TEN: THINGS THAT MAKE ME SMILE

Tuesday, August 13, 2013

Hello there! Happy Tuesday!

It's time for another "TEN THINGS," inspired by lovelyindeed. Today's a VERY special one because I am linking up with my dearest, dearest friend and fellow blogger ellyse @ with love, ellyse. Due to our shared love for blogging and making lists, we've decided to tackle this series together! Besides, it's more fun in pairs.

Ellyse and I became best friends in high school junior year. We met when we both joined the school yearbook's executive staff and then the following year, we ended up having countless AP classes together. Although we didn't exactly instantly click (hehe oops) the moment we realized we were basically the same person, we connected over buffalo pretzels, Lauren Conrad, and frozen yogurt. A solid foundation of a friendship if you ask me.
"I thought you were Asian me, but now I realize I'm just Caucasian you" — New Girl anyone?
Post high school, her and I went to different colleges, but we always kept in touch keeping each other updated on all things inspired. Because we've been each others motivation for so many things, I'm so excited to be doing this series with her. So! Without further ado, I present to you this week's list. (Be sure to check out Ellyse's list, as well.)

Cheers!

What's on your list?

Dorm Room 101

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

My roommate and I just moved into our dorm on Sunday and then classes started immediately the following Monday. So in between finding books and entering school mode, my roommate and I have been trying to unpack, settle in, and make our room feel more like home. We just finished sorting out our things, but we haven't had a chance to personalize just yet. We plan on adding photos and DIY crafts to personalize the room once we find the time.... and motivation.

As a student who is entering her third year in the dorms, I completely understand the challenge of trying to efficiently fit a year's worth of precious crap, along with another person's precious crap, into a small little space that is comparable to a shoe box. I know. It sucks. But over time, I've picked up a few tips and tricks along the way to maximize space and personalize it, too. I thought I'd quickly share ones off the top of my head to any freshman reading this. And I'll do that by showing pictures of my current room.

Again, don't mind the bare walls just yet. (;

-

This is the view of our room when you first open the door.

TIP ONE: Bunk the beds. I know this may be awkward in certain situations, (AKA if your roommate is a stranger and you want to establish boundaries), but bunking beds, as opposed to mid-lofting both, takes away a lot of space. Utilizing vertical space is very important when the horizontal space is limited. If you do not feel comfortable bunking beds with your roommate, you could high loft both beds. High lofting is when you treat both beds as if they would be the top bunk, so there is free space under it. *Check with your housing board because most dorms do offer this option, but do not publicize it. Last year, my roommate chose the latter to set up our room. Doing this gave us room to bring in a futon for guests, too. Under my bed went the futon, and under hers we fit her desk and dressers.

TIP TWO: Store things under your bed. That space under your bed looks like awkward, useless, trapped space, at first glance, but it is actually really spacious for things that are low in height. In this picture, you see a storage container and a suitcase under the bottom bunk. In the storage container, I put all my hoodies and zip-ups in there to save closet space. I thought this was the most practical because the weather is still warm out and I'm not always reaching for a hoodie. In the suitcase, I just threw all my extra closet hangers and winter jackets that I don't need quite yet, but probably will in a few months.

TIP THREE: Put your jewelry on display. Personally, if my jewelry is not on display, I will never wear them. So I bought a T-Stand to hold all my necklaces cannot get tangled, and I bought a hardware storage container to keep my earrings.

Home sweet home. (:

I'll add more pictures once our room is finished.
