BURNING THE MIDNIGHT OIL.

Thursday, February 6, 2014

This is the third consecutive night I've stayed up past 3 a.m. but I can't even complain because it makes me feel alive (cliche?). I've never felt so invested and attracted to a project before and it feels stinking good.

If you follow me on any of my social media platforms, then you probably know what this is regarding. (I also apologize for the overload of updates, hehe. But I hope it does nothing but brighten your day.) Once the #TENDAYSOFLOVE initiative launched, I went in full throttle. I believe whole-heartedly in this project and am pouring 100% of myself into it. From planning to designing all the visuals to reaching out to potential partners and overseeing executions, I would be lying if it I said it wasn't time-consuming... It has literally been taking chunks and chunks out of my day, not to mention brain power... but I want to give it my best. My thoughts just naturally start drifting in that space now. No room for half-butting.

My classes are on the back burner right now, but PTL that I am only a part-time student this semester and have the time to do something like this! I am even considering taking all of my classes for credit only so that I can focus on more individual ventures without worrying about it affecting my GPA. We'll see about that—I'm still not sure if that is the smartest decision. A majority of my classes are core major classes, so the content is interesting and something I should be learning anyway.

I am seriously living and breathing these quotes right now.
I hope one day this means something to you, too.

I haven't shared too much on More Love Letters after this post, but I wanted to update you all regarding this really exciting Valentine's Day campaign we started this week. It would also mean the world if you joined in on the fun! I know many of you are like me and you live for this kind of stuff... you know, any opportunity to create, to write, to inspire, you relish it. Am I right? if so, this is definitely for you...

WHAT IT IS:
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, this year, we want to count down the days with intentional love lettering to the people all around us.

This is the "Ten Days of Love" Challenge.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
- Refer to the daily prompt (see photo above) to discover the letter recipient of the day. (We want to make sure we cover everyone with love!)
- Grab your boldest pen of choice, a colorful pad of stationary, and your best handwriting.
- Start writing—use the list as inspiration and write to the name who immediately comes to mind. You can make this letter long, short, personal, or anonymous, whatever you wish. This letter is completely yours, we won’t tell you how to love!
- When you’re done, give the letter to the recipient. We know, we know—this is the scary part. But you can do it. We believe in you and we are right there with you. Let’s be bold together and fill the world around us with more love. This world needs more love letters.
- Lastly, this is the fun part. Share your letter with us. Take a photo (it can be of the actual letter, you writing it, the pens you used, etc.) and post it on your Facebook and tag UIUC Campus Cursive OR you can message it directly to us and we will post it anonymously. *Include the hashtag #TenDaysofLove and like our FB page, too!

- Share this movement with your friends! :) Share the link, like our page, grab your friends and make it a letter writing party! You could be part of a movement.

This is day one. I'll be posting daily gifs as inspiration and friendly reminders! :0

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot me an email or check out our Facebook page here!

OLD MINIBOOKS

Thursday, August 8, 2013

If you're following me on Instagram, then you know that I recently spent a portion of my evening rummaging through a heap of scrapbooking supplies, trying to make some order in that mess. (Order, order, we must have order!)

And boy, was it a mess... Strings were all intertwined with each other and little scraps of paper got caught in the web. Old tape had somehow stuck to EVERYTHING forcing me to discard many unused sheets of card stock and fresh photos. Saaaad beeeeans.

Two episodes of "White Collar" later (My favorite Netflix show at the moment), you could finally see the floor of the room. (#littlewins!) I found an empty storage box that wasn't being used and kind of neatly/messily threw it all in there.

During the untangling and unsticking, I came across an old minibook that I had started my sophomore year! That was the year I first discovered diy-extraordinaire, ELISE BLAHA, and her collection of minibooks. I made my own, kind of stopped, never binded it, and left it alone... (Fun fact: I am AWFUL at finishing things I start. Probably the biggest lie I tell during job interviews.)

Thought I'd share what they look like.

And there you have it. :) This one was themed something along the lines of "firsts" via instagram photos.

Do you have any minibooks/scrapbooks/project life albums? Or do you have any advice on finishing crafts that you start?

XO.

HAPPY DOWNLOAD / 1

COLUMN

My favorite part about following design bloggers (besides the amount of inspiration it exudes) is: THE FREEBIES! Anything from fun greeting cards to organizational printables and especially new wallpapers are always a joy to come across as a reader. (: A few bloggers who always spit out designs that I enjoy and appreciate are DESIGN EAT REPEAT, DESIGN LOVE FEST and BREANNA ROSE. All the great work has inspired me to start creating and sharing my own! Starting today, I aim to create two new graphic and inspiring downloads for you each week. I think wallpapers are the perfect way to get my design fix when I'm itching to create, as well as share with you some of my favorite quotes and verses.

Today I'm kicking off the new series "happy download" with 5 super simple desktop wallpapers! I hope you enjoy and I'd love to hear if you chose one to download!

TO DO SO: Right click on the image and click on "open in new tab." This will allow you to access the image's full size. Once you are there, right click + save, or directly drag it onto your desktop. Then, make your wallpaper! 1, 2, 3! (:

Secret - sometimes what I do with desktop wallpapers I find is I print it out and tape it to my wall. I call it wall art. :) Feel free to do that with these, too.

^ Those four are my own original creations. Hope you like! I also wanted to share with you the desktop I am currently using which I found from DESIGN LOVE FEST. (below)

* ALSO! This is my FIRST original post exclusive to this blog. (YAY!) Please continue to follow along by subscribing to the email list on the right OR via my personal favorite, BLOGLOVIN. (:

Being a Tourist in Chicago

Friday, June 14, 2013

Image

I brought my camera to work the other day, so during my lunch break I went for a little stroll - tourist style. (: Chicago is so BLUE and beautiful! To be honest, I never liked bringing my camera into the city because I didn't want to give off an impression as a tourist. This is my house and I'm going to put my feet up on the coffee table if I want, kinda thing. But I realize that mindset is pretentious and not to mention, stupid. Because when you're a tourist, you look at the town with a different pair of lenses and you're a lot more open-minded to do things that are out of your comfort zone. Suddenly all those free, crowded events don't sound so lame, and the new restaurants popping in look enticing, and sitting in Millennium park after a food truck makes for the perfect Saturday afternoon.

My motto for this summer:
417215_10150525283751693_115355596692_9104012_1763534159_n

What does that mean for me? Run a 5k, attend a summer festival for a different city/state, have a picnic, make a video, go on a road trip, host a board game night, make s'mores, watch a movie at a drive-in, play sports regularly, go fishing, win free tix from a radio show, rent a bicycle for the day, purge my closet, find a hike path, run a 100 miles, frisbee on a beach... just to name a few. Hold me to it?

Being a tourist in Europe was great and so fun. But this, this is the beautiful town I live in and am so proud to call home. (: And I'm ready to unlock its secrets the same way.

What's on your summer bucket list?

Look Book : Wearing Chambray

Friday, June 7, 2013

lookbook
The chambray shirt is a classic  — and for good reason. It can be dressed up or dressed down, and matches nearly anything. Tuck it under a pencil skirt to go to work, or pair with distressed boyfriend jeans and a statement necklace for a GNO.  You can expect to find them sold anywhere from Target to J.Crew, varying in wash, fit, style, and to mention, price.

I've been on the hunt for the perfect chambray shirt for quite a long time now. I wanted one that was light, fitted, and not too stiff. And you'll never guess where I found it. Plato's Closet. Macklemore would be proud. :) **Note: I am actually selling an old AERIE chambray shirt. I've worn it maximum two times and it is still in great condition. You can find it (as well as some other gently worn items) here. Site is updated daily.
